Gwyneth Paltrow lets her daughter take sick days from school so they can visit the beauty salon together.
The 'Country Strong' actress - who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin - admitted she recently allowed six-year-old Apple to stay at home during term time because she just "needed" some bonding time with the youngster.
She said: "I'll probably get kicked out of our school for admitting this, but I let Apple stay home yesterday. I just needed to be with her.
"We went out to lunch, we went to the beauty salon, we were together."
However, 38-year-old Gwyneth admitted Apple's day off caused problems at home when her daughter told her four-year-old brother Moses he would be allowed to skip lessons too.
Apple told him: "Tomorrow is your day to stay home from school."
Although with juggling her responsibilities as a mother, Gwyneth admitted her marriage is not always perfect but said she and 33-year-old Chris try to communicate as much as possible.
She explained to America's Good Housekeeping magazine: "Marriage is hard. Chris and I have had our ups and downs, big-time. Marriage is way more complicated than just, 'Who gets to control the remote?' But hopefully we keep heading in the same direction and getting through the obstacles.
"I'm a good talker. I definitely have to coax things out of him when we talk. You know, he's British, so it's a different lexicon totally. But you have to communicate. Otherwise there's no relationship
"I can depend on him. He makes me laugh. He's really appreciative of me. You know, he makes me feel special."

Ricky Gervais won't host the Golden Globes again.
The comedian caused controversy when he hosted the awards ceremony on Sunday night (16.01.11) by ridiculing several top Hollywood stars including Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Charlie Sheen and Robert Downey Jr. and his remarks were even branded "unacceptable" by Philip Berk, the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) - the organisation that runs the event.
But the 'Stardust' actor - who first hosted the ceremony in 2010 - isn't worried about appeasing anyone in the future because he doesn't think he will take on the job again.
When asked by gossip website TMZ if he would return for a third time, he replied: "It's doesn't really matter because I'm not going to do it anyway. I said I wouldn't do it a second time but I think twice is enough."
Some of his more risque jokes included telling guests they should look forward to "a night of partying and heavy drinking - or as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast" and when he introduced Downey on stage to present a prize he said "many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail", in reference to his past drug addictions and wild behaviour.
The 'Iron Man' star immediately addressed the quip by asking the audience: "Aside from the fact that it's been hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones, I'd say the vibe of the show has been pretty good so far, wouldn't you?"
Although he has been criticised for his routine, Gervais, 49, has thanked everyone who has supported him.
In a posting on his blog, he wrote: "Thanks to the twitterverse, the blogosphere, all the journos and the coolest stars for coming to my rescue. It was heartwarming to realise I wasn't losing my mind. Some reactions nearly had me believing I'd gone too far too. Nearly.
"Can't wait for the people who thought it was over the top to see my stand-up shows. F--k me, they will s--t themselves. (sic)"
Among the celebrities who offered their support to Gervais were broadcaster Larry King, actress Elizabeth Banks and 84-year-old Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner - who was ridiculed by the comic star over his engagement to 24-year-old Crystal Harris.

Elizabeth Hurley has got a pet parrot.
The model-and-actress was given the exotic bird, a Blue Fronted Amazonian, for Christmas but she only received her feathered friend this week.
She has called the animal Ping Pong and is very excited about the new addition to her home.
Hurley wrote on her twitter page: "Home soon, where my new pet will be waiting. Yes! Finally, a Blue Fronted Amazonian. Beside myself with excitement.
"Ping Pong-the new parrot-was my favourite Christmas present ... Making a list of everything I want to teach her to say. (sic)"
As a breed of birds parrots can be taught to mimic human speech.
Although she is excited about her pet the 45-year-old British star is worried about the bird's possible temperament.
She added in another tweet: "Have been studying parrot attacks on You Tube. Slightly nervous. (sic)"
Although she has gained a parrot, Hurley - who has an eight-year-old son Damian from her relationship with Steve Bing - lost a husband last year when she separated from her spouse Arun Nayar.
The 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me' star was forced to reveal her marriage had ended after she was revealed in December to have embarked on a relationship with Australian cricket legend Shane Warne.

Gary Barlow can't wait to go on holiday without his kids.
The Take That frontman - who has children Daniel, 10, Emily, eight, and two-year-old Daisy with wife Dawn - is planning a romantic break with his spouse, though he claims he is worried about how well they will get along without the rest of their family.
He said: "The kids keep us pretty busy, although in about a week's time, we're going off on holiday, me and the wife with no kids, for the first time in about 11 years. I'm making a list of things we can talk about!
"I'm really looking forward to it, I'm taking my keyboard with me, and my laptop. No I'm not really."
Though the 'Flood' singer - who turns 40 today (20.01.11) - claims to struggle for conversation around his wife, he won't be finding other ways to occupy their time together after admitting he finds it "insulting" when people use their mobile phones in his company.
He told BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans: "I get really insulted when people bring their phones to the dinner table and send texts, am I not important enough for you? It really annoys me. "

David Beckham cried when his wife Victoria told him she was pregnant again.
The soccer star was reportedly stunned when the fashion designer - who learned she was expecting their fourth child during a trip to England in November - planned a romantic meal at home to break the news they would be having a sibling for Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, eight, and five-year-old Cruz.
A source said: "She started a conversation about their future as a family and whether it should be in the UK or US.
"But when he said they have three children to think about, she smiled and said 'four'. David just beamed at her and welled up. He's an emotional guy and it was very overwhelming for him.
"He told her he couldn't have wished for better news. He's so happy, he can't stop crying!"
Victoria, 36, reportedly told their children about her pregnancy on Christmas Day (25.12.10), prompting fresh tears from David.
The insider told heat magazine: "It was magical. Victoria told them mummy had an extra-special present but they would have to wait for it. Then she told them they could expect another brother or sister.
"David welled up again while the kids were screaming and running around. It was the best Christmas present they could have had as a family, and it was a very emotional day."
The couple have reportedly asked close friends Gordon and Tana Ramsay to be godparents to their forthcoming new arrival.
A source told Now magazine: "The Ramsays were delighted and honoured to be asked. For all his foibles, Gordon is a great dad and Victoria loves Tana like a sister."
Another source added: "Tana is older than Victoria so has given her lots of advice and has been constantly on the phone since Victoria told her the news at Christmas."
