Victoria Beckham has been named as one of the UK’s top style icons – by women over the age of 50.

Despite only being 37 herself, the former Spice Girl landed at number six on the poll.

The glamorous singer turned fashion designer was the youngster woman to feature in the top 20 list.

Unsurprisingly, Oscar winner Dame Helen Mirren came top of the pile.

A spokeswoman for clothing brand CC, who carried out the poll, said: “Victoria Beckham has proven she carries universal appeal and her image over the past few years has altered from high glamour to a more classic look which appeals to women of all ages.

“The results show women in their fifties aren’t afraid to embrace younger styles when they’re done the right way.

“And Dame Helen Mirren has as much style, grace and elegance off screen as she does on it and is a fitting icon for the women of her generation.

“All too often we are bombarded with images of youth and temporary trends, so it’s great to see such a varied list filled with women of real class.”

Runner-up was world-renowned model and face of the swinging sixties, Twiggy.

Joanna Lumley, who famously starred in Absolutely Fabulous, was third. Sixties pop sensation Lulu was fourth, while the first lady of British cinema, Dame Judi Dench, was fifth.

Brit star Russell Brand is ready to give his take on the US late-night TV circuit.

The comedian and film star has inked a deal with FX to air six half-hour specials featuring his opinions on current events, politics and pop culture.

Debuting next spring, Brand’s untitled series will be shot in front of a live studio audience and feature a heavy crowd participation element.

Brand told US Weekly: “I am so excited I’m on the point of climax, in fact I will put the ‘O’ into FX, which spells FOX, which is actually the channel’s real name.

“That’s the only thing that worries me about all this, to be honest. At least I’ll be able to have a Christmas drink with Bill O’Reilly.”

Aging singer Cliff Richard may be 54 years older than Justin Bieber but his 2012 calendar is quickly outselling next year's calendar featuring the teen pop sensation.

Last month Cliff was banned from a 1960s radio station for not being 'cool' enough.

But according to sales figures for his latest calendar, Sir Cliff Richard remains the hottest of properties.

The 71-year-old's 2012 offering – featuring the star in a number of smiling poses, including some topless – is proving so popular it is outselling 17-year-old Bieber's effort.

Shopping website Amazon said Sir Cliff's calendar is the third biggest selling celebrity calendar this year, behind only former UK X-Factor groups One Direction and JLS, who are first and second respectively.

Sir Cliff has sold an estimated 250million records in his career with a string of hits including Summer Holiday, Living Doll, The Young Ones and Devil Woman.

Elizabeth Hurley, Young, Younger, Fabulous, 40, Shane Warne, Celebrity

British actress Elizabeth Hurley has said she doesn't try to 'look younger'.

The 46-year-old thinks the key to looking better as you get older is not to try and recapture youth, but to instead embrace what you've got.

She told Zest magazine: "I love women looking fabulous and I don't think growing older means looking less good.

"For me, it's less about trying to looking younger and more about making sure you look your absolute best."

But Hurley did admit these days she does need to look after herself a bit more.

The Gossip Girl star added: "Without doubt, once I hit 40 I had to make more effort and it wasn't until then I realised how much easier it was when I was younger.

"Back then, I could look pretty good on three hours sleep. Now, I look like a lunatic if I don't get at least double that. In my 20s I used to be able to exist on coffee, cigarettes and crisps, but again, a couple of days of that now and I'd look and feel really scary!"

Liz also said that her fiance Shane Warne is much healthier than her.

She continued: "Shane is very disciplined when he has to be but, bizarrely, I eat at least three times more than him because I'm far greedier and think about food all day long.

"He's naturally very athletic because he's been a professional sportsman for over 20 years. He keeps threatening to make me run with him, but I've resisted so far!"

Fashion designer Victoria Beckham craved pets when she was pregnant with daughter Harper Seven.

The 37-year-old, who gave birth to daughter Harper in July, longed for a cat when she was pregnant but she couldn't persuade husband David to let her get one.

Victoria told Elle magazine: "When I was pregnant, I just wanted to get lots and lots of animals, for some reason. We talked about cats, but David said absolutely not."

The former Spice Girl added that she worked hard to regain her figure following the birth of her baby girl.

Beckham, who also has three sons, Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, nine, and Cruz, six, with footballer David, said: "Oh, listen, I worked at it. I was breast-feeding, so I ate super healthy, and I worked out seven days a week.

"I wanted to burn all my leggings - I was adamant that by the time I went to fashion week I would be able to wear clothes."
