Prince William and David Beckham were among the stars who turned out in London last night to salute the bravery of British soldiers.

The footballer took two of his sons, Brooklyn and Romeo, to The Sun newspaper's annual Military Awards at the Imperial War Museum, which recognises the contributions of troops.

David applauded Flight Lieutenant Mike Anderson, who won the Most Outstanding Airman prize for enduring a gun and mortar attack to reach six Afghan children, saying: "Everyone is very proud of the guys who put their lives on the line for their country. It's a great night to honour the brave."

Prince William's wife Kate Middleton was moved to tears by the soldiers' stories, while her husband told Sergeant Ryan McCready the recipient of the the Most Outstanding Soldier award: "This is a truly well deserved award. Sgt McCready, you exemplify to an extraordinary degree the unique qualities that make the British soldier second to none: courage, steadfastness, professionalism, sense of humour and a deep humanity."

Other guests who attended the event included Gordon Ramsay and Frank Lampard and his girlfriend Christine Bleakley.

Paul McCartney has announced plans to release a new album in 2012.

The album will feature covers of tracks that inspired the former Beatle's song writing in later life, along with guest appearances by Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder and two brand new songs.

Talking about his choice of track listing for the LP – which will be his first since 2007 - he explained that it consists of, "the songs which inspired the songs, the songs me and John [Lennon] based quite a few of our things on."

"When I kind of got into song writing, I realised how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them," he continued to Rolling Stone magazine.

"I always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys - I just thought the songs were magical. And then, as I got to be a songwriter I thought it's beautiful, the way they made those song'."

The record is set to hit the stores in February.

gerard butler, hospitalised, surfing accident, maverick's, stanford medical centre, evil twins entertainment, Celebrity

Gerard Butler was reportedly rushed to hospital after almost drowning in a surfing stunt gone wrong.

The 42-year-old actor was shooting Of Men And Mavericks in California when he is believed to have been trapped under water after being hit by a freak wave.

According to The Mirror, the British star was caught in a 12-foot swell at Maverick’s - the infamous surf spot south of San Francisco - before being rescued by a jet ski and whisked to a nearby hospital by an ambulance.

Eye witness surfer Frank Quirarte said, “Butler was held down for a solid two-waves and took four or five more waves on the head.

“He was then washed through the rocks on the inside before he was finally able to be plucked out.

“Even on small days the inside at Maverick’s can push 10ft plus and really tear you up.

“When they brought Butler in he had that 100-yard stare that surfers get after a two-wave hold [down] or near death experience.

“After almost 20 years at Mavericks I’ve seen a lot of it, but at least he was standing on his own two legs. He was then carted away in a waiting ambulance.”

He is thought to have been taken to Stanford Medical Centre and detained for observation overnight, although there has been no comment on his condition and his reps and production company Evil Twins Entertainment have also given no comment.

Kate Middleton is reportedly agonising over what to wear for Christmas with the Queen.

The Duchess of Cambridge will spend her first Christmas away from home and her sister Pippa after tying the knot with Prince William in April.

Instead the 29-year-old will spend the holiday with the monarch and a source told Now magazine that she’s having a hard time trying to decide what to wear.

“As she’s seen as a commoner, getting her outfit right is crucial,” said the insider.

“She doesn’t want to overdo it, but if she goes for an understated look, it’s like she hasn’t made an effort.

“So she’s asked Prince William to dig out a few old pictures of his mum Princess Diana for inspiration.”
