Johnny Depp

(BANG) -

Gore Verbinski won't direct the fourth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie.

The filmmaker - who helmed the first three instalments of the Johnny Depp-starring franchise - has declined the chance to take on the next movie, which is due for release next year.

He said: "I had a fantastic time bringing 'Pirates' to life, and I am eternally grateful to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team.

"I'm looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future."

The director is now likely to turn his attention to videogame movie adaptation 'Bioshock'.

No announcement on who will take over 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' has been made, but it has previously been rumoured that Johnny's long-term collaborator, Tim Burton, is set to take the helm.
