Reese Witherspoon's children think she is "strong and cool" because of her new movie.

The actress admits she was delighted that Ava, nine, and Deacon, five - her kids with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe - love her new movie, animated adventure 'Monsters Vs Aliens' because it has made them see her in a new light.

She said: "To say they were excited would be the understatement of the century. They were rabid about this movie. They were like, 'When can we see it again? Can we see it in 3-D? It's OK if we can't see it in 3-D. We'll see it in 2-D. We just want to go see this movie again.' I think every kid kind of secretly thinks their parent is a superhero. So this has just blown their minds. They can't believe that I'm so strong and cool. My daughter just thinks it's so inspiring."

The 'Legally Blonde' star says her favourite thing about making the movie was the fact she didn't have to worry about her appearance because she was never on camera while recording her lines.

She told Parade.com: "I liked that you don't even have to wake up or brush your hair. You just show up and they draw you these incredible outfits and costumes and hair and makeup. And it made my life so easy."
